Meet some of the great people who work for BreastScreen Queensland

Jean, Radiographer

I’ve worked as a radiographer for BreastScreen Queensland for 20 years. I’m one of the all female staff who takes x-rays of clients when they come in for their breast screens.

I mainly work on one of the mobile screening vans — visiting remote communities such as Magnetic Island, Ingham and Mt Isa. I’m on the road for 8 to 11 months each year, travelling thousands of kilometres. Luckily for me, I have a very understanding husband! I also love my job.

The laughter, tears and hugs shared with so many people across Queensland makes the months alone on the road worthwhile. Listening to the stories that clients tell me about how their lives have been touched by breast screening is a great privilege and very humbling.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to serve our clients and play my part in saving women’s lives.

Rachel, BreastScreen Queensland Registry

I’m the Manager of the BreastScreen Queensland Registry Team. The Registry is the database that holds all our client information. My team makes sure it’s is kept up to date and secure. We provide support to BreastScreen Queensland staff who use the Registry and to clients who need help with their online accounts.

I started working for BreastScreen Queensland in 2003 as the Data Manager in the Brisbane Southside Service. I then joined the Registry Team in 2004. I really enjoy the work that I do and feel that I make a difference to our staff and our clients.

Sandra, Health Promotion Officer

I’m a Health Promotion Officer with BreastScreen Queensland. My work involves promoting breast screening and making our service accessible to women in rural and remote communities.

I especially enjoy connecting with women in rural and remote communities. They’re so grateful that we take a screening service to them so they don’t need to travel. It makes the busy job of organising visits to 45 different locations in Far North Queensland all worthwhile.

I first started working at BreastScreen Queensland as a Health Promotion Officer in 2002. I’ve now worked with 3 different BreastScreen Services across Queensland and I still really enjoy what I do.
